1. Angels Cove
Located on the southwest side of Talicud Island and very
much close to the Mansud wall. Roughly 1.45-hour boat ride
from the dive shop. Generally calm and with very mild
current. Visibility is about 20 meters. Bottom composition
is sandy with soft and hard corals. Average depth is 20
meters. This is the absolute site to see bigger fish,
however only certified advanced divers and up is recommended
to dive there as the depth is between 40 to 50 meters. Large
tunas, mackerels and jack fish swarm the area. |

3. Mansoud Wall
Located on the southwest of Talicud Island. Roughly an hour
and a half from the dive shop. Generally, waters are calm
around the Mansud wall. Average visibility is 60 feet.
Bottom composition is sandy but the walls are rocky and full
of vast coral formations. Average depth is at 30 meters.
This area is a nicely carved cove with hidden beauty
underneath. Coral formation covers the shallow part of the
wall but the main highlight of this area is the luscious and
beautiful tunicates attached to the walls. This is about 40
meters deep on high end. An ideal dive site for night diving
and deep diving. Parrotfish of all sizes abound the area.
This is also ideal for both novice and advanced divers.
Tropical fish swarm the rocky bottom. The shallower part
abounds with soft corals which makes it an interesting place
for snorkelers. |

5. Marissa 1, 2 & 3
Located on the southeast part of Samal Island, closest to
Pearl Farm. It was named after the Pearl Farm owner's
daughter who is an avid fan of scuba diving. Accessible by
Banka for 30-40 min from 20 to 25 meters. Staghorn, bubble
corals, table corals and elk horn surround the area. Rich
marine life also inhabits the area. |

6. De la Paz Corner
This offshore reef is an ideal site for night diving. There
are lots of pluerobranches, nudibranches, pipefish, sponge
crab and big sponges you'd be glad to see. Within a short
distance, roughly about 15 meters, is a wall with deep
crevices and large overhangs. You can see lots of scorpion
fish, lionfish, shrimps, trumpet fish, cardinal fish, hawk
fish and a few parrotfish or rabbit fish. |
|
8. Mushroom Rock
Located on the northeast side of Samal Island facing Davao
Oriental and Davao Gulf. Usually it has very strong currents
but with proper timing this area can be very calm during the
peak of high tide. Mushroom Rock is an ideal place to scuba
dive during the Amihan season, but it is not advisable for
novice divers as it averages 30 meters.
The name is derived from its bottom shape, mushroom-like,
formed most probably because of the constant erosion caused
by strong currents. Initially, the drop off is at 90 degrees
to about 30 meters. Then, it gradually descends to the
endless bottom of the ocean bed. Unexpected visits of
pelagic fish usually adorn the place but a variety of reef
fish abound in the area. Several reefs can also be found
along the stretch of the reef but timing is very important
in order to have a satisfying dive. Dolphins are sometimes
seen within this area. |

16. Pinnacle Point
Located on the southeastern tip of Big Ligid, this has been
considered a challenging dive location. Heading south is a
wall covered with gorgonians with crinoids clinging to it.
There's a big chance for you to encounter moray eels,
cardinal fish and octopus that hide in many holes around the
area. There are also three large formations topping out at
10 to 20 meters. Butterfly fish, surgeonfish, emperor fish
and jacks abound in the area. Pinnacle Point also features
multicolored coral formations. The middle pinnacle is
flowered with pink soft corals while the protected areas are
adorned with gorgonians, black corals, anthias, tubastrea,
angelfish, scorpion fish, lion fish, and other marine
invertebrates. |

17. Ligid Caves
This island lies on the northeastern tip of Samal Island.
During night dives, the island will reveal its hidden
treasure of hundreds of fine golden sea cucumbers that
surround the reef with its amazing array of soft corals,
hydroids and basket stars. The reef top is covered with
leather corals that drop to approximately 25 meters. Further
down, are two caves, one of which has three entrances that
lead to a corridor. These caves are habitats of reef fish,
black corals, soft corals and sponge crabs. On the outer
part of the cave crabs, tunicates, scorpion fish, lionfish,
parrotfish, rabbit fish, razor fish, and moray eel are often
seen. Sometimes, lucky divers can see pelagic or reef
sharks.

18. Small Ligid Island
Often known as "Buenavista" which was adopted after the name
of the resort that houses the area. An ideal dive site for
divers. This area features two sites: to the northeast is a
heavily covered reef with hard corals and multi-colored fish
like coral trout and parrotfish. To the southeast is a large
boulder with sandy patches adorned with shells, soft corals,
nudibranches and sea snakes. At 25 meters, schools of jacks
and rainbow runners swarm the area. And on the west side of
the island are some small caves at shallow depth. A resident
green turtle gasping for air in the surface can be ordinary
seen in the area and a whitetip shark can be a treat if you
are always looking under the rocks. |
